These awards are becoming less important year after year. Some (not all) of these winners are being selected by popularity and not on merit. To me when I see some of the winners I think to myself really? Did they make that much of an impact in the games at that position to be considered? We got to wait until next year but a better job in this selection process should be considered.
I can see myself agreeing with this as well. With all due respect to Marvin since he is a great guy, I wouldn't think he was the best first basemen last year in our league. His batting average was low and he probably led the league in errors at that position. But if we are going by nice guy, then yeah, he can win it every year.
Do I agree yes that the awards r not as it seems n we will have a better system next year. Me,I got an award yes bt do I think that im da best, I play hard n never give up on any of my teammates sowhat im trying to say is that do I think im dabetter third baseman no, sam is better shew alot of players r maybe better. I was one that voted for marvin bt not because hey is popular only because he shows up everyweek. I like sal bt he came in. da end, I mean really if u shows up to half da games Then ur got my vote easy.can
N I love playing with all u guys bt lets get real. I could say it ,, I love ion he could play with me on any team bt zack should have won da mvp. A no hitter n 17 hits in. a roll n top three in. all catagories ,I mean come on guys really. Now I have an idea ,, get back took me. So next year at da awards we will have a system that will work. Dont best mnadd,,just play hard n have fun !! Im taking all da awards next year anyway lol. Freddie dagame melendez out .......
Freddie, the one MVP I don't deserve is the one I got in 2008 over Carl. I got that one because Carl burned too many bridges with too many voters, and I had a decent season myself.
Me, you , and Zach, all three of us had great years. Alex too. Anyone could have won, and it would have been more or less legit. I got on base 183 times, more than Zach, more than Joe Gerber in his legendary 1995 campaign. That's my strongest argument for winning it.
As for the anonymous comment about the awards being meaningful-- they're never going to be perfect. They aren't in professional sports, either, to the point where the Hall of Fames are kind of a joke-- voted on by sportswriters who don't understand the last 20 years of statistical research-- if you expect a higher standard from us than Cooperstown, you're expecting way too much.
Also, most of us don't have fixed positions. That's how Marvin can win a gold glove, and it isn't totally bogus. He always plays there. He's identified with the position. I voted for Tony Connor. If I had two votes, I would have voted for Sal as well. But Tony and Sal play second, catcher, sometimes outfield... so not everyone remembers them as being good first basemen.
Don't take the awards too seriously. It's nice to come home from the winter meeting with some hardware, but it doesn't mean much in the overall fabric of the game, and it doesn't mean we think Marvin is Keith Hernandez, Josh is Johnny Bench, Bill is Jim Edmonds, etc.
And next time sign your name to it... everyone else does...
Dude I hope ur not mad at me ,,or anybody else. I didnt mean to say u dont deserve da mvp ,, that was just my opinion ,,for u mean alot to each n everyone of us. I waso trying to make a point n not makr it sound like im being a sorey loser . If u no how I am I speak from my heart n i really dont want to b da bad guy. The awards will b better nrxt year!!! As for this year I want us big boys to get our headsin order so we could make this games da game of games. My apology to all !!! Lets play ball n brake records n most of all have fun ...
