Hit Or Hit? by Havelock Hewes

At the risk of sounding self-serving, the official scoring for the team I pitched against on Sunday seemed not to understand the concept of "error."  It is difficult enough for pitchers to live with the on-field consequences of mistakes behind them.  In the case of the game I pitched Sunday there were about five of them.  At the end of the game I expected that at least two of these would end up as E's.  I was wrong.  According to whoever(s) scored the game we played a flawless game.  For a pitcher, the experience is akin to being the bloodied victim of a mugging who appears at the police station only to be told it never happened.

Not to sound like imcrying as well but i go thru that all the time . Not everyone is perfect but we do need to have limited score keepers,, just lke empires ,, the same guys take the heat and then they dont want to do it. I didnt check the book on sunday when i pitched but i could bet that i had the same results. The difference ,, my team lost ,, my era goes up and i just try to deal with it.

Hey Hav-- did you win the game?

Can you imagine my tears if I lost?
Freddy - I personally scored at least two errors on your fielders, so I think you did alright. Although I did give Ian a hit on a misplayed pop-up to right field.

Its kool guys cause im going to win it all anyways lol and i know you guys and whoever is helping are doing the best they can. We will fix it soon all !! About errors```` i say if you dont touch it then its a hit ,,if u lose it in the sun its a hit ,,if u have to dive or jump in the air its a hit ,, and if freddie hits anything ,,lets give him all the hits so i can retire in peace and never play again.

this seems to be an ongoing theme...sunday there was a fly ball to left where the usually steady freddie was under the ball. he misplayed it and the ball went off his glove. error.
a little birdie told me that there was a discussion that ensued whether it was a hit or an error. it was marked an error but why the discusion?
we have to go by the old adage: "if an above average player or phil kotik would of made the play or not.
yes...phil would of made the play so error...plain and simple.
i work my butt off on the mound and sometimes have to be subject to the 'scorer' whether that person knows or doesn't know how to score hits and errors.
if we are not going to score properly than its probably best to scrap the book and just play.
