Dues
For the last few years we have kept the annual dues at $35. However, all players are allowed to get in games unless we have 27 or more players. If we have over 26 players those who have not paid their dues can't play. In practice, in the small number of games that have a 26+ attendance, the non-dues payers strike a bargain with our treasurer, Gil Schmerler, to play at a reduced rate.
The parks department permits have gone up by over 50% and we have run through our windfall of cash from selling our baseball cards, so we will need to collect more in dues (or do more merchandising). We could put the dues up and/or collect from more people. One way to do this is to enforce the dues rule anytime we have 21 or more players (down from 27). Another suggestion, in addition to reducing the number of players needed to invoke the rule, is to have a steep $10 per day one-time fee and $20 for anyone who plays 10 or under games and a $35 fare for 11-plus games. The bookkeeping required to enforce this may be more than Gil is willing to take on.
More merchandising is another way to raise money. I am considering making a 30th Anniversary SFLOI Strat-O-Matic game. The hours that I would have to put into this project make it impractical for me to do for no money. But I may do it and keep half the profits from the game (to pay me about minimum wage for my work) and give half the profits to the league. Anyone else who would like to make this same merchandising deal with the league (baseball cards, yearbooks, t-shirts, etc) is welcome to do so.
I am interested in any thoughts or ideas...

Strat- O- Matic game?
Havelock please,
Elaborate :)
Also I think T- shirts are a good Idea, but if we dont just want 50 T-shirts lying around for a loss, we have to make them nice.
Maybe we could pick two NY or SFLOI theme names
(highlanders& gothams) (Lettermans + Seinfelds) (Marvins+ Freds),
But the graphic has to be nice. In my experience, if the jersey is nice and presentable, we can sell it. If its not thought out, we cant.
Plus if we know we can sell it we can make a lot of shirts for the future. Just print #'s 0-99, Two colors for team switch-ablity.
Did somebody say wholesale?
Yeahhhhh...

I don't want the league to require that anyone buy t-shirts. These will not be uniforms to distinguish the teams. I also don't want to put the league at risk of losing money. That's why we're offering to split the take with anyone who wants to put in the time and take the risk. As for the design, I know Sal Cipriano was playing with this idea. Personally, I'd like something understated.
In the early 90's I made a SFLOI version of strat-o-matic and sold it to players. For those of you who have never played strat-o-matic, its a dice game which uses cards for each major league player calibrated to reflect the player's actual performance. I started working on a 30th Anniversary Edition of the SFLOI game, but it is quite time consuming.
Help me out stats lab,
What are the league records for most RBIs,HRs,Hits,AVG,,Triples, doubles. Etc.
I know I can find them on the lifetime stats,
But that's a lot to read,
make it easier on my eyes, will ya.
I think $10 to play is too steep. A $3.00 charge per game should be more adequate. However, what if they don't have the money but we need them to play? I think once we have 11 on 11 anyone new addition that wants to play needs to have paid something.
I've proposed getting shirts for years now. I thought Sal was helping with this during this last year. Shirts are not expensive if you bye wholesale and we can get reversible shirts which would be ideal.
Derek
Gil's always been good at striking a deal that the payer can afford. What if we give him leeway to adjust the amount? None of this comes into play - everybody's in until we have 20 players - until we have 21 players. Thanks for voicing your concern about the amount of money. For some people $10 is very affordable and, for others, its not. The difficulty is that we will need to get more money this year and last year we had several people who did not pay dues. Anyway, we'll be going by the old rules- everybody is in until we have 27 players - until after the winter meeting in late February or March.
I can work on the t-shirts and get them at a cheap price. My mom has her own printing business (shirts, embroidery, invitations, etc.) so I could get things for wholesale or close to it. I think ppl will be willing to buy a tshirt just to wear and not to be only used as jerseys on a weekly basis.
Zach
Zach, Sal, Derek and Alex should coordinate the t-shirt business. The league cannot give you money to do this. However, if Zach can get a good price and you guys can agree on design and color I think it is a pretty good bet that you could make a little profit. The league would be happy with you guys taking half the profit (to split) and the league getting the other half.
The essential guys here may be Zach and Sal. Zach to arrange all the buying of shirts and the printing. Sal for his logo.
If, for instance, 50 t-shirts can be made at $4 apiece, I think you could sell them for $8. That would be $100 for you guys to split and $100 for the league. Perhaps, they could be made in a few different colors so that people might buy more than one. You would only need to sell 25 shirts to make back the cost of printing them.
